Galatians 5:22-23 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
The fruit of the Holy Spirit is the essence of the presence of the Holy Spirit. These are His attributes and characteristics. These do not emanate from an earthly person or condition. The fruit belong to the Holy Spirit and are Him. Wherever He is, the fruit will be, which means the whole feel of heaven springs forth from the Holy Spirit’s presence.
When we pray, we are actually asking for the things of heaven to be transferred from there to here. The Holy Spirit’s presence and the fruit of His presence are what we long for.
As a person yields their life to God, the fruit of the Holy Spirit will manifest. No one can make these nine attributes of the Holy Spirit manifest – these will effervesce inside of a yielded heart.
The fruit of the Holy Spirit is the fruit of repentance. Catch this! So many believe that seeking the Holy Spirit is just a thing by itself. Whatever condition you are in, sinful or not, simply ask for the fruit of the Holy Spirit and you will get it. Or, even worse – just start worshipping God, singing and lifting hands up and you will find the Holy Spirit’s presence. That type of thinking is contrary to God’s word. Let me explain…
Repentance is to agree with the working of the Holy Spirit. Repentance is to accept the truth of the Bible over life-style choices. Only the Holy Spirit can prompt us toward repentance. Not even your own mind prompts you toward repentance.
In John 16:8 it says, “And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness…” The Holy Spirit convicts the converted heart toward righteousness, not sin. The prompting toward repentance is the active cleansing process and power of the Holy Spirit. It is like a wash cloth going across the counter-top and finding sticky syrup in the soul.
The Holy Spirit’s intention is to clean and disinfect sticky areas to make a place of pure and holy worship toward the Father. That is why we read, John 4:23–24 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.
Holy Spirit motivated worship from a heart that is actively changing by being disinfected is His aim. This is not simply singing songs at a church service. – No, the Holy Spirit moves a person to understand that worship is a way of life.
James 1:27 Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
You see the Holy Spirit is attentive to what we do all week long.
Romans 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
We present holy bodies to God as we are made holy by the essence of the Holy Spirit rising in us through constant surrendering our soul to the Holy Spirit, it is the only way. The Holy Spirit will not stop disinfecting us until He is stopped. Never stop the working of the Holy Spirit. Is it possible to stop the Holy Spirit? 1 Thessalonians 5:19 Do not quench the Spirit.
Is there an area of your life that you have declared off limits to the Holy Spirit? Maybe it is infected and moldy. Maybe oozing and sore. The Holy Spirit wants to bring that area into wholeness and health. Listen, you are a pretty good person and if you could have changed it you would have, right?
What if you can’t? What if it is only the working of the Holy Spirit that will break through the scab and put antiseptic right where it needs to go?
How about this… How about acknowledging to God that the scab is there, and it is infected. Simply that.
Lord, there is infection in me. I choose to repent, I am powerless to change me or even heal myself. So, I simply say to You today that I need only what You can provide, wholeness. Cleanse me according to Your promise to do so. I no longer choose the sore, to feed it or enable it – I repent of that behavior. Through the power of Jesus and His cross, I declare dead the sin that has kept me bound and sore. The power to turn from sin comes from You – I choose to walk in it. Thank You Jesus for making that available to me.
Blessings,
