Did you know that the Holy Spirit always points us to our purpose? God pointing started in the Garden of Eden, take a look.
Genesis 1:28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
You see, our purpose is found in what God tells us to do. Look closely you will find that God is giving direction to man, and as man engages in what God said to do he finds his purpose. We are made by God for God to give us purpose. You can say that we are made by God perfectly pointless. And it is His deep intention to fulfill our lives by giving us purpose.
Did you know that as God expects you to be sent, Jesus was also sent? He went through the same heart agreement with the Father that you go through. He had to come into agreement with the Holy Spirit leading Him to seek His purpose, just like us. He is our example.
John 5:30 I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.
Jesus followed the leading of the Holy Spirit.
——
Jesus also sends us. We can see this clearly in the life of His disciples.
John 20:21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”
Where? The where is important, right? Here is a pivotal point in the life of the disciples as they see the resurrected Jesus standing before them, notice that Jesus gets right to the purpose. Jesus is pointing, immediately He is pointing.
Don’t you think after that amazing time with Jesus the disciples said this. “Guys this is so exciting! Jesus is sending us, we are sent ones! We get to do stuff… BTW, did he tell any of you guys where we are supposed to go? Where are we supposed to go again?” I don’t know…he didn’t say.
Jesus sends the disciples into a state of readiness first. He does this by sending us without a place attached. The Holy Spirit does not often tell us where to go when He sends us. He tells us we are sent so that we can get ready to be sent.
Acts 1:4-5 And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
You are sent, so stay here and wait for further instruction! Get ready! We agree together that we are either on the move to where God wants us to serve His interest, or we are awaiting further instructions.
Lord, we wait for You. You are the one who leads and directs. Your tender care and love motivate us to wait on You and do what You say. Lord, by Your Holy Spirit, You lead us where You want us to go. We praise You today for the privilege of serving You. We lay down our rights and entitlements today and receive our purpose and appointment from You. We find of worth and value in You. Thank You Jesus for making all this possible through Your shed blood and broken body. Thank You Jesus, thank You so much.
Blessings,
